
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces State Road 59 will close Monday, June 28 over Little Raccoon Creek located just south of S.R. 47 in Waveland to replace the bridge. The official detour follows S.R. 47, S.R. 234, U.S. 231, S.R. 236 and back. This is scheduled to be completed by August 15.
This project also includes replacing a box culvert on U.S. 136 just west of New Ross over Cornstalk Creek, located between C.R. 850 E. and C.R. 500 S. The roadway is scheduled to close on Monday, July 12. The official detour follows U.S. 136, S.R. 32, I-74, to S.R. 75 and back. This is scheduled to be completed by September 1. Morphey Construction Inc. was awarded the $1.1 million contract. |
About the Indiana Hands-Free Law In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
