|CLAY AND VIGO COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 159 starting on or after Wednesday, July 15.
The road will be closed for a small structure replacement located just east of S. Daugherty St. which is east of Blackhawk. The road is expected to be closed through August 13.
Drivers should seek an alternate route.The official detour will follow State Road 46, State Road 641, U.S. 41, State Road 246 and back.
This project was awarded to CLR, Inc. for $1.7 million.This project also includes replacing small structures on State Road 159 and on State Road 157. Construction at all locations is scheduled for completion October 15.

In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
