|CLAY AND VIGO COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a project to improve bridge decks will begin on or after Monday, July 6. Motorists will be controlled at the bridges on two lane roadways with a temporary traffic signal while construction work is underway.
This contract was awarded to Weddle Brothers Highway Group LLC for $1.2 million. This project will place a thin deck overlay on the following bridges.
S.R. 641 over Feree Rd.
S.R. 641 over an unnamed tributary to Little Honey Creek, located 3.5 miles north of U.S. 41
S.R. 641 over Little Honey Creek
On Moyer Road over S.R. 641
S.R. 46 over S.R. 641
S.R. 46 over Big Slough Creek, located just over 4 miles east of S.R. 159 in Clay County
S.R. 46 over Honey Creek located just over one mile west of S.R. 159.
Old S.R. 63 over Hayworth Slough located over 5.5 miles north of S.R. 246
S.R. 59 over Old Wabash/Erie Canal located over 5 miles south of S.R. 246 in Clay County
Work is expected to be completed at all locations by October 17. INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.

In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
