Rivers to Ink One-Year Deal With Colts

Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers is set to sign a one-year deal to become the Colts’ next quarterback for the upcoming season. The 38-year old will receive $25 million in compensation and the Colts will also have a franchise tag available the following season if they wish to retain Rivers. The signing will allow the Colts to draft a quarterback in a later round and allow him to sit behind Rivers for a year or two to develop.

The signing of Rivers comes after the Colts gave Jacoby Brissett a two-year deal before last season but after a rocky finish to the season and the team missing the playoffs for the fourth time in their last five years, general manger Chris Ballard was not sure whether Brissett would be the starting quarterback of the future.
