Charlé Rae Rupp, 72, of Clay City, Indiana, passed away on January 3, 2020 at his home, following a battle with cancer.
Charlé was born on September 10, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana the son of Harold and Virginia (Campbell) Rupp. Following high school he enrolled at Rose Hulman and graduated with a degree in Physics. He later graduated from Rensalaer Polytechnic, in Troy, New York with 2 Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. He continued his education at the University of Massachusetts earning a Ph.D in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Charlé worked for General Electric, in Ordinance Systems, in Pittsfield, Massachussets, Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Massachussets, and National Semiconductor Corporation in Santa Clara, California as well as various other computer start-ups while living in the Silicon Valley. Charlé taught as a professor at UMASS – Lowell and holds 15 patents to his name.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Virginia Rupp and two brothers George H. Rupp and an infant brother Harlé Rupp.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Sue (Kane) Rupp; two sons Michael C. Rupp and Matthew H. Rupp (Kelly); siblings: John E. Rupp and wife Loretta, James A. Rupp and wife Bette, Betty J. Saff and husband Charley, Suzan M. Osborne and husband Daryl; a sister-in-law Sharon Rupp as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Services will be held at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street, Clay City, Indiana on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home, on Wednesday, from 11am until time of services.
