On 12/2/19 at approximately 11:47pm Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a train in the 6900 block of Co Rd 900E near Brownsburg. At that location, deputies discovered that a 2017 Jeep had been driven into the side of a moving CSX train. The driver of the Jeep was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries. While Deputies were investigating that initial crash scene on County Road 900E, they were alerted to another motor vehicle crash involving the same train (which had stopped as a result of the first collision) a little further down the railway where it intersects with County Road 700N. Deputies then responded to County Road 700N where they located a 2008 Lincoln SUV that had been driven head on into the stopped train. This second crash occurred at approximately 12:24am on 12/3/19. The driver of the Lincoln SUV was pronounced dead at the scene of the second crash and has since been identified as Dennis Swanson, 43, of Brownsburg. The primary cause of the first crash is suspected to be driver inattention. The cause of the second crash is unknown and still under investigation at this time.
