The mission of the Indiana Extension Homemakers is to strengthen families through continuing education, leadership development, and volunteer community support. Through cooperation with the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, IEHA offers a wide range of lessons at no charge. Program areas include: foods and nutrition, human development, family resource management, and special interest lessons. Homemakers also have groups that focus on leadership, through i-LEaD (Indiana Leadership Education and Development – a personal leadership development program), and leadership opportunities at local, district and state levels. Lastly, Indiana Homemakers are greatly involved with volunteering for items at Riley Children’s Hospital, supporting the Ronald McDonald House, and health awareness programs.
Here in Putnam County we have clubs located all around the county, including special interest clubs (sewing, quilting, photography, and embroidery)! If you are interested in learning more about being involved with IEHA, please call the Purdue Extension office. Coming up, October 20-26 is State IEHA week – if you know a Homemaker – thank them for their volunteerism!
Putnam County Extension Homemakers have TWO events open to the public this fall. These are:
Phone Photography: The Photography Club is sponsoring local photographer, Rad Drew, who will present “Discover the Magic – iPhone Photography” on Tuesday, October 15th, 6:00pm, in the Collanade Room at Gobin Church (on DePauw’s campus). Please download Lightroom and SnapSeed application on your phone (free) prior to the presentation. Registration is not required for this event. Hope to see you there!
Knives and Garnishes 101: On November 14th at 12-noon Homemakers and community members will gather at the Area 30 Career Center to learn about knife skills and garnishing. Participants are asked to bring their own knives, cutting board, and vegetable peeler. A light lunch of soup and salad will be served. Registration is required, please register by November 7, by calling the Purdue Extension Office. A fee of $5 will be required at the door.
