Richard Dale ‘Dick’ Kendricks

Richard Dale “Dick” Kendricks of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, in his home. He was a lifetime resident of Montgomery County.

Dick was born April 18, 1933, to Amos and Helen Pennefather Kendricks.

He attended Harvest Fellowship Church at New Market. He was also a 50-year member of the Eagles Lodge. He retired from Mid-States Steel after 42 years, took two weeks vacation, and went to work at the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course. He then retired from there after 20-plus years in 2017.

For years he was an avid golfer and golf ball hunter. He even had a couple hole-in-one shots. In the spring you would hear tales of mushroom hunting, and he always found quite a few. Pretty sure he knew everyone or someone related to them. He enjoyed spending time on his porch visiting with friends and watching his grandchildren and the neighborhood kids playing outside. The last few years you would show up and hear his faithful companion Reggie bark at you until he was scolded for it.

Dick was first married to Lucy Cooksey. They had two daughters, Carol (Brandon) Betts of Washington State and Janet Vaught of Crawfordsville. They later divorced. He was then married to Janet Weir Graves of Crawfordsville on June 20, 1961. She passed away in July of 2015. They were married 54 years. They have a daughter, Lisa (Randy) Caudill of Ladoga, and he became a dad to Steven Graves (deceased). He also raised grandson Michael Graves.

He is survived by brothers, Charles Kendricks and Ron (Donna) Kendricks; his three daughters; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Would also like to acknowledge grandchildren, Leanna and Jerod Lewellen, Heather Caudill and Alex and Taelor Caudill for assisting Grandpa with the last year of his life. It didn’t matter what was asked, they did it. A big thank you to Sara J, any crazy concern we had you were more than willing to help us. You have been God sent. We know he so appreciated all you did for him.

We will be having a Celebration of Life 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course in the clubhouse. All family and friends are welcome to come share memories.
