You’re Invited to the Putnam County Mural Project’s Community Block Party on Veterans Highway

Sunday, Sept. 29  |  5–7 pm  |  Free Admission

To celebrate the conclusion of our 2019 Greencastle silos, the Putnam County Mural Project is inviting the entire Putnam County community to join us in celebration as we “unveil” our mural.

Please join us on September 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. as we celebrate the completion of our Putnam County mural (one of Indiana’s largest)! As part of the celebration, we will be shutting down Veterans Highway at the corner of 231 and Veterans, right in front of the S&W Feed silos that serve as our mural “canvas”.

The event will feature family activities including a bounce house, face painting, games, and more. In addition, there will be plenty of food & drink provided by Putnam Inn, Wasser Brewery, Inn at DePauw, and Almost Home, as well as live music by nine-time Blues Music Award nominee the Tad Robinson Band.

Entry into the event is FREE and open to all ages. Parking will be accessible through the Putnamville Avenue entrance to Veterans Highway (West of the silos). Handicap parking will also be available.

Special thanks to our event sponsors who make this special celebration possible…

ABOUT OUR PROJECT
(2019 GREENCASTLE SILOS)

Our first mural project will produce one of Indiana’s largest murals in Putnam County, IN, a rural community with a population of 30,000 located 45 miles West of Indianapolis. The “canvas” includes the four south-facing silos of S&W Feed Center, located at the intersection of Veterans Highway and Rt. 231 and sees approximately 10,000 visitors pass by each day.

The mural will beautify and activate this area of the community. The site location also happens to be the future site of a People Pathways trail-link that will provide residents with a perfect viewing area of the artwork from across the road.

This project engages the community by hosting capacity-building workshops and presentations for artists interested in learning more about murals, mural process, and its positive effect on neighborhoods. Our mural selection process invites the entire community to vote on style & content of the mural.

In July of 2019, the project raised $34,000 from community members and received a $30,000 grant from Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places grant, in partnership with Patronicity.com.

In July 2019, our selection committee chose internationally-known mural artist Key Detail to design and paint the mural. Arriving September 16th, Key Detail is currently painting the murals and will finish the project in time for our Community Block Party on September 29th.
