James R. Simpson, 85, of Crawfordsville passed away at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
James was born April 15, 1934, near Wallace, the son of James Albert “Bert” and Lois M. (Starns) Simpson. He married Mildred Lois Dobbs Dec. 5, 1954, at Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death Sept. 25, 2001.
He also is preceded in death by son David W. Simpson and sister Jeanette Snyder.
Surviving family include: son James R. (Donna) Simpson, Crawfordsville; two daughters, Joyce A. (Charles) Melvin, Waynetown, and Donna S. (Reed) Morrow, Crawfordsville; sister Esther Jane Revie, Springfield, Missouri; daughter-in-law Brenda Simpson, New Richmond; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
James graduated from Wallace High School in 1952; he served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard from 1956 to 1961. He was employed at Mid-State Wire and Steel as a forklift operator for 32 years, retiring from there in 1996.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Crawfordsville. He enjoyed watching country music programs on TV, he loved to play croquet and the card game Rook. His favorite meal would include fried fish, with fried potatoes and green beans, topped off with peach pie for dessert.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2019, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 303 N. Main St., Veedersburg. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at the funeral home, with Pastor Tony Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Baptist Church.
