Stephen Paquin Comments: The Tiger Cubs placed 2nd in a 10 team field in the Mustang Invitational on Saturday at Cascades GC in Bloomington. The Cubs were led by Jaxon Parmley with a second low score of the day with a 77 on the par 71 course. He was followed by Conner Taylor with an 80; rounding out the scoring for GHS was Benton Parmley 87, Josh Bomgardner 103, and Vincent Martoglio with a 108. Parker Van Ness of Brown County was medalist with a 73.
The Cugs are still struggling to put together 4 scores under 90 to get a consistent score below 330. Putting and chipping seem to be the biggest obstacle in reaching that score. With the weather being so wet and windy early in the season we haven’t been able to practice these important skills with our younger players to lower their scores. Jaxon, Conner, and Benton have played consistently so far, but we need to find a fourth and fifth score from our younger and inexperienced players; this will come with more practice and playing. Playing on unfamiliar courses have also played into the higher scores, For example, in today’s tournament only two of the five have played a hilly and tricky course in Bloomington. This will come as the season progresses and more playing time is gotten. This was a pretty good finish for the Cubs.
Next Match: Wednesday at Tiger Pointe CC against Southmont 4:30.
