Putnam County DAR Good Citizen Competition set for Dec 11

Each year administrators and faculty from the four Putnam County High Schools work with the Washburn Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution to select one member from each senior class to represent his/her school in the Putnam County DAR Good Citizen Competition.  The information from the Putnam County winner is then submitted in the statewide competition.

A few years ago, South Putnam High School Senior Heath Pruitt came home from the state competition with $1000 awarded for his outstanding community participation and one of the top essays in the state.

The students are selected for having a variety of interests, making positive contributions to home, church, and community and such qualities as dependability, honesty, leadership, cooperation, self-control and initiative.

Each contestant must write an essay about the responsibility of good citizenship, submit a transcipt of grades for 4 years and two letters of recommendation.

The 2018 competition will be held on December 11 at the Putnam County Public Library at 3 pm at which time the individual Good Citizens will read their essays for the assembled DAR members, parents and school adminstrators.

The overall county winner will be announced at that time.
