John B. Lofland, 96, passed away Sunday at Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville.
He was born October 30, 1922 in Crawfordsville to John Lucas and Clara (Breaks) Lofland. He married Lela Clark and she survives. He was a 1940 graduate of Waynetown High School.
He had been a journeyman at R. R. Donnelly’s. He served in the U.S. Army in during WWII and the Korean War, serving in Guam, Philippines, Japan and Papa New Guinea.
His 50 year memberships included Masonic Lodge #50 where he was past Master, Scottish Rite, Order of the Easter Star; Eastern Chapter (Past Patron) Boy Scouts, First Christian Church where he had been an elder, American Legion Post #72 and had also been part of the first Honor Flight out of Lafayette. In addition he performed over 120 Masonic funerals.
Surviving with his wife are children John L. (Mary Ann) Lofland, David Lofland and Natalie (Gary) Newlon along with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, brother James Lofland and sister in law, Sandy Lofland Brown along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn Chaney and her husband Dan. He is preceded in death by brothers Luther and Robert and sister Nora Richardson.
A memorial service will be held 11: 00 Monday at First Christian Church. Visitation will be 2-5 PM Sunday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Masonic services at 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed towards First Christian Church or Masonic Lodge #50.
