Tammy Sue Childress, 59, of Brazil, Indiana passed away at Union Hospital on August 28, 2018, surrounded by family, following a battle with cancer.
Tammy was born October 14, 1958, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Clarence Junior Bowman and Donna (Foddril) Bowman. She graduated from VanBuren High School with the class of 1977. Tammy worked at Hook’s Drug Store, Clay County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher and head cook and Lynn’s Pharmacy. For many years she worked for Clay Community Schools as a Teacher’s Aid. Most recently she was working for Towne Park Assisted Living Center as a cook.
She married Stephen Craig Childress on June 22, 1978. They attended Forest Avenue E.U.B. Church for a brief time. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, taking care of her family and working around the house. She had a lifelong love of horses which she passed down to her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her father Clarence Junior Bowman.
She is survived by her husband Stephen Childress; 3 sons: Michael Childress and wife Tracy, Joshua Childress and wife Kim, and Joel Childress and wife Brittany; a daughter Hannah Hall and husband Brandon; grandchildren: Hailey Vanatti, Eli Childress, Ema Childress, Ava Childress, Chase Childress, Sean Childress, Mackenzie Childress, Lilly Childress, Ryleigh Childress, Luke Childress, Brogan Moody, and Brason Moody; her mother Donna Bowman; brothers: Jerry Bowman and wife Joan, Jim Bowman and wife Karen, and Dennis Bowman and wife Christine as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorial services will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 7:00pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7pm. Visit www.lawson-millerchapel.com to light a candle in her memory.
