Harold L. Gardner, 67, a resident of West Lafayette passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1951, at Crawfordsville, a son of the late Henry and Faye (Swank) Gardner.
He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School with the class of 1969. After high school, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War until he was discharged in 1973. Harold began his career with the help of Senator Ron Alting as a maintenance man. After receiving his HVAC certification, Harold worked as a technician for many years until, due to his health, was unable to work any longer.
In his spare time, Harold enjoyed making clocks, watching NASCAR and was an avid IU basketball fan. He was active in frisbee golf, softball and played intramural basketball. Although a quiet and soft-spoken man, everyone knew his four sons held a special place in his heart. Harold loved to tease, always had a smile on his face and a Pepsi in his hand. He impressed on his children to continually pursue their dreams.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Faye Gardner; brothers, Sam and Charlie; sister Joan (McFarland).
He will be deeply missed by his wife Marsha; sons, Troy (Alicia), Derek (Stephanie), Rossington (Tina) and Justin (Kimberly); sisters, Caroline (David) Hunt, Mary Gardner, Bert (Mike) Eubank and Nancy Haley; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 at Young’s Chapel Christian Church, Crawfordsville.
