Cassandra “Cassie” Tucker Peters, 73, of Clay County, Indiana passed away on January 21, 2018 at Westminster Village following a lifelong battle with Cerebral Palsy.
She was born on June 18, 1944, in Clay County, Indiana, the daughter of Richard R. and Opal Edith (Mace) Tucker. Cassie graduated from Gerstmeyer High School with the class of 1962. Cassie earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana State University and two Master’s degrees from Butler University and Indiana University New Albany, both in Special Education.
She was a member of the Seelyville First United Methodist Church and had been involved, in the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Among her many accomplishments were obtaining a grant that allowed some of her students to participate in NASA’s Training Center where they were able to enjoy the freedom of movement in their Zero Gravity Chamber.
Cassie’s teaching career included Indianapolis, New Albany and the Clay Community School System.
Cassie was preceded in death by her father Richard R. Tucker.
She is survived by her mother Opal Edith Tucker of Terre Haute, two brothers Benjamin Tucker and wife Tammy of Terre Haute and Lyndon Tucker and wife Kathy of Angola, Indiana as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family member and friends.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 4-7pm. Services will be at the funeral home, on Thursday, at 11:00am with Pastor Ann Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
