Willie Lee Smith, 91, of Knightsville, Indiana, passed away at Cloverleaf Nursing Home, in Knightsville, Indiana on January 20, 2018.
She was born on August 23, 1926, in Springfield Georgia the daughter of William Joseph and Gussie Lee (Hodges) Crosby. Willie married William Edward Smith Jr. on May 10, 1950. He preceded her in death after 35 years of marriage.
Willie spent much of her time raising 8 children. Willie was a very strong woman that was the heart of her family. She loved angels, feeding and watching birds. When she was younger she enjoyed going to thrift shops and “yardsaleing” and going out for breakfast.
In addition to her parents William and Gussie Crosby, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Smitty Smith; children: Mike Smith, Gloria Marie Peloquin, Lester Alan Weaver, and Joseph O’Neil Smith; step-children: Betty Nelson, Pearl DuBose, William Edward “Billy” Smith III; a granddaughter: Lorree Lee Meeks; a sister Helen McCullough; and a brother: Reggie Crosby.
She is survived by 4 children: Peggy Stem and husband Robert of Tennessee, Charlotte Jensen of Savannah, Georgia, “Tinker” Robertson and husband Kevin of Brazil, and Linda Mills of Savannah, Georgia; a step-son Jimmy Smith of Savannah, Georgia; sisters: Betty Schuman, Dorothy Smith, and Erma Muncie; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members
Willie’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Cloverleaf Nursing Home, for the love and care they showed to their momma during her 8 year stay – especially to her dear friends and caretakers Rhonda and Cynthia.
