New Agreement Sets Parking Limits on Greencastle Square

The City of Greencastle now has enforcement powers over the parking spaces on the Courthouse Square and all adjoining areas. These spaces are subject to a two hour parking limit, now thanks to an interlocal agreement with the county. The Greencastle Board of Public Works and Safety approved the agreement unanimously. The Putnam County Board of Commissioners had already unanimously approved the agreement on January 2. Before this agreement was passed, the city had no way to enforce parking regulations on the inner portion of the square, because county property extended about two thirds of the way into each of these spaces. Because of this, the city had no jurisdiction over these spots prior to this agreement.
