Ward J. Robertson

Ward J. Robertson, 92, of Greencastle, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at Putnam County Hospital, Greencastle.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1925 in Seymour, Ind., to the late George A. and Lula A. (Lucas) Robertson.

In 1944 he graduated from Cortland High School and begin working on a dairy farm. Knowing he would be drafted, he decided to enlist in the Army Air Corps to be an airplane mechanic, but was sent on to become a radar technician in Wisconsin, where he was made a temporary corporal and then a sergeant.

Shortly after this time he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Brocker, at the age of 20.

After being honorably discharged in 1946, he and Betty moved to New Maysville where they founded a dairy farm and raised five children. They were married for 43 years when Betty passed away March 2, 1988.

Ward was a 4-H leader for many years, as well as a state delegate for the Democratic Party, and a representative for the Indiana Holstein Association.

He is survived by his children, Carol (David) Ersland, Avon, S.D., Jim (Teresa) Robertson, Shelbyville, Joe (Marnie) Robertson, Cloverdale, John (Kelly) Robertson, Roachdale, and Joyce (wife of George) Robertson, Roachdale; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary (Dayton) Griffith, Daytona, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, George Robertson; two great grandchildren, Gabrielle Robertson and Emery Erickson; and three sisters, Wanda Giddeons, Ona Mae Deaver and Wilma Herndershot.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at Grace Baptist Church, 8246 S. State Road 75, Coatesville, with military rites and Pastor Bert Bunner officiating.

Burial will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
