Nancy Bennett

Nancy Bennett, 84, of Brazil, Indiana passed away on December 14, 2017 while living at Exceptional Living Center in Brazil.

Born in Van Buren Township Clay County Indiana on July 4th, 1933, the youngest daughter of Joe Louderback and Ella Mae (Burns) Louderback. She graduated from Van Buren High School Class of 1951. Married Robert W. Bennett on September 21, 1953. Bob had sold a Blue 1941 Ford Coupe to purchase her engagement ring. They were married for 53 years until Bob preceded her in death on November 10th 2006.
While Nancy was a young girl she worked on the family farm and fed animals for her Father, when she wasn’t doing her chores she enjoyed roller skating and riding horses. Upon her high school graduation she moved to Indianapolis area for a short period of time to work with her sister at a retail store in Fountain Square. Bob had enlisted in the Army in 1951 and was deployed to Korea. When he returned from the War, they started their lives together. She soon started a career at the Brazil Telephone Company and Bob started his at Arketex. Nancy also worked nights for Sam Palmer as a waitress. They built a home in Van Buren Township on the Levi Louderback property that they purchased from her grandfathers estate. On April 13th, 1962, their first son Robert “Joe” was born. November 4th 1974 John Jacob “Jake” was born to Bob and Nancy. After 20 years of service to the phone company, Nancy went to work for Don Girton at Girton Implement. In 1978 Nancy took a job at Columbia Records in Terre Haute, she worked their 15 years until officially retiring in 1992. After retirement she continued to work various part-time jobs including bartending and waitressing, and helped as an aid to older people when she was asked. When Nancy had time away from work she enjoyed cleaning house or being in the woods behind her home cleaning brush with Bob, or in their vegetable garden, or caring for the birds and her flowers around her home. She loved playing cards with her sisters, and the rest of her family and friends. After becoming a grandmother she helped care for her two grandsons Stuart and Wyatt, which became her pride and joy.

She was a past member of the American Legion Post # 2 Auxiliary, VFW Louderback/Bussing Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary

She was preceded in death by her Father Joe Louderback, Mother Ella Mae Burns Louderback, , Mother-in-Law Clarice Bennett, Father-in -Law Roy Bennett, Husband Robert W Bennett, infant brother Donald Joseph Louderback, Sisters Margaret Girton and Husband Talbot, Harriett (Martin) Lucas, and Husbands John Martin and Stanley Lucas, and Joan Louderback. She was also preceded in death by long time friends Mary Lou Warren, Betty Hadley, and Joy Trout.

She leaves behind one sister Betty Jayne Portemont, two sons Robert Joe Bennett and wife Charlene, and John Jacob Bennett and wife Jill, two grandsons Stuart Jacob, and Wyatt Robert along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 4-7pm. Services will be at the funeral home, Sunday at 7:00pm with Mark Mullinix officiating. Burial will take place at Calcutta Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay County Humane Society or the YMCA of Clay County.
