GPD Arrests Prime Suspect in Recent Gasoline Thefts

During the evening hours of April, 19, 2017, Sgt. Eric Vaughan investigated an attempted theft of gasoline from a parked vehicle on Greenwood Avenue. The owner of the vehicle spotted the suspect who fled in a red truck. Officer Elsiana Crosby and Sgt. Vaughan had previously investigated multiple thefts from parked vehicles at an apartment complex on Wood Street, near Robe Ann Park, days prior. With a similar vehicle description, Officer Crosby was able to locate a distinct description of the truck, as well as a possible suspect name. Officers located the truck parked behind a residence on Liberty Street and were able to locate the male suspect identified as Edward Reeves age 21 of Brazil, Indiana. Sgt. Vaughan conducted a search of the truck and located a modified piece of garden hose that matched a length of hose that was still left in the filler neck of the victim’s vehicle, abandoned when the suspect was interrupted by the vehicle’s owner. Detective Sgt. Michael Collins interviewed Reeves, garnering a confession for the attempted gas theft, the Wood Street vehicle thefts, as well as a theft from Casey’s General Store. Edward Reeves was booked in at the Putnam County Jail pending review of charges by the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office.
