Brazil Resident Crashes into Clay County Honor Roll War Memorial

On April 4th at approximately 10:50am, the Brazil City Police Department responded to a crash that occurred at the Clay County Courthouse. According to reports Carl Lawrence, age 65 of Brazil, was driving his Saturn heading east on U.S. 40 when for unknown reasons drove over the curb and sidewalk, tore through bushes, hit a flag pole, and finally crashed into the Clay County Honor Roll war memorial which is located near the courthouse. Heavy damage was sustained to the war memorial however city officials say that insurance should be able to handle most of the costs of repair. There were no reports of injuries.
