On the morning of March 9, 2017 at approximately 12:51 am Greencastle Police Officer Alec Pettit was dispatched to the 500 block of East Hanna Street on the report of someone yelling “call 911”. Troy Morphew age 43 admitted to officers that he had called 911 as a joke. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Mr. Morphew was in possession of a syringe and was wanted on a warrant out of Putnam County. Mr. Morphew was later transported to the Putnam County Jail and booked in for Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Possession of Methamphetamine, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Law Enforcement pending review of charges by the Putnam County Prosecutors Office. Assisting Officer Pettit was Officer Haitt, Officer Huffman, Sgt. Vaughan and Lt. Rick Keller with DePauw Police Department.
