At approximately 12AM Friday morning, the Brazil Police Department responded to a 911 call from a male stating he had been shot. Upon arrival officers discovered the victim unresponsive in his Noble Street home. Eric Hutton, 27, of Brazil, was transported via ambulance to St. Vincent/Clay Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Brazil Police Department requested assistance from the Indiana State Police, and interviews were conducted, leading to the discovery of a suspected person of interest. At approximately 1:15 PM this afternoon, officers located the person of interest at a West Central Avenue apartment in Brazil. The perimeter was secured by officers as they attempted to convince the man to come out of the residence. The individual appeared at a window, momentarily showing has hands, before closing the curtains. Within moments a single gunshot was heard from within the apartment. Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered one male with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The wounded suspect was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries. This is an ongoing investigation.
