Richard “Rich” Dane Lorenze, 71, of Brazil, passed away September 12, 2016, at Greene County Hospital, in Linton, following a battle with Alzheimer’s and Diabetes.
Rich was born in Clay County, Indiana, May 4, 1945 the son of Marshall “Max” Lorenze and Ethel (Krider) Lorenze. He graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1963. Rich worked with his dad at Lorenze’s Service Inc.. He ran the station until he was unable to do so any longer due to his failing health.
In his younger years Rich loved sports, especially drag racing. He built and raced Ford Super Stock race cars from 1963 until 1983. He won the U.S. Nationals and was runner up in many other events.
Rich volunteered much of his free time to coaching CYL Baseball and YMCA Basketball.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Sandy, whom he married March 21, 1970; a daughter Dana Daub of Brazil; a son Tony Lorenze and wife Anna of Carbon; three granddaughters: Kaya Daub, Emmery Lorenze and Oakley Lorenze; and a brother John Lorenze of Brazil.
Services for Rich will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Thursday, from 11:00am until time of services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay County Humane Society in his memory.
