Local Scholars and Donors Celebrated at Community Foundation Event

The Putnam County Community Foundation celebrated local scholars and donors earlier this month through their annual Donor Scholar Reception.  The reception was held at the Community Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Twenty five of the more than sixty scholarships awarded through the Foundation were represented by more than 80 attendees.  This annual event is an opportunity for scholarship recipients and donors or representatives to meet one another and celebrate their continuing education.

The event offered an opportunity for two scholarships to be featured, with donors and recipients alike sharing the impact of their scholarships.  Fauneil Stewart, member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Eta Alumnae Scholarship Committee, spoke about the history and opportunities the scholarship has given the community; “The first scholarships were awarded in 1998 and now 18 years later, we have given 85 scholarships and awarded $194,000 to those scholarship recipients.” She also spoke highly of the academic prowess of the recipients, citing their “spirit, talent, enthusiasm, and commitment.” Alexandria Land, one of the Alpha Gamma recipients, encouraged those in attendance to “use all of the resources and opportunities that these scholarships provide.” Executive Director Elaine Peck and Hunter Miller, recipient of the Evans Family Culver Academy Scholarship, also spoke about the connection that scholarships give donors and their recipients.
