Greencastle Police Officers, along with additional local law enforcement, symbolize the start of the summer Olympics with the annual Putnam County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. At 5:30PM this evening, runners will begin their two mile run at the People Pathways Gazebo across from Walmart, in Greencastle east, making their way west to their destination of Putnam County Comprehensive Services. The Special Olympics is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in more than 20 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Indiana, an accredited part of the Special Olympics network, relies entirely on donations as they do not receive federal or state funds.
