Floyd Fire responded to a multi-motorcycle accident this afternoon in the 6300 block of East County Road 500 North. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but a preliminary investigation indicates a motorist stopped in the westbound lane of the road just past the crest of a hill to use her phone to make a call. There is no shoulder to the road at that location so the vehicle was fully in the westbound lane. A motorcyclist stopped to check on the motorist and upon determining the motorist was ok, pulled away from the vehicle and was struck by a second motorcycle also going westbound. Speed is thought to be a factor in this accident. The first motorcyclist was transported by Lifeline Air Ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indy with a possible broken leg, possible head injuries, and numerous severe skin lacerations. The passenger of the 2nd motorcycle was transported by StatFlight Air Ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indy, complaining of no feeling from her chest down. The operator of the 2nd motorcycle was transported by Putnam County Operation Life Ambulance to Hendricks Regional Health with a foot injury, pain in the arm, and minor cuts and abrasions.
