Lawrence F. Gallagher, 88, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Delphine; loving children Dr. Patricia (Dr. Gary) Becker, Kathleen (Dan) Benassi, Anne (late Michael) Pickering, Mary Beth (John) Timko, Alice (John) Schulze and Christopher (Susan) Gallagher; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Colleen (late Shawn) Gallagher.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 8 with 10 a.m. mass directly following at St. James the Less Church, Highland, Fr. Keith Vinus officiating.
He was laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery.
Solan Pruzin Funeral Home and Crematory, Schererville, was in charge of services that took place Friday, July 8.
Lawrence was a member of St. James the Less Church for 20 years.
He retired from Inland Steel Co. with 35 years of service.
He was a graduate from the University of Notre Dame, where he played football. He received his master’s degree from IU and also a World War II veteran.
He was a member of the ND Monogram Club, the 100 Club, the IN Harbor Yacht Club and American Legion Post 180.
He was a past member of the Highland Sanitary Board and past police commissioner for the town of Highland.
He loved his boat and model trains, also hosted the best Notre Dame tailgate parties during football season.
