The Department of Natural Resources is reminding citizens to keep safety in mind when taking your ATVs out for a spin this summer. Recently a case came out of Illinois where an 11 year old lost control of his ATV and ran into a woman’s Jeep. The ATV overturned and killed the 11 year old on impact. Accident reports show that ATV accidents kill around 800 people yearly. Most of these accidents were a result of unsafe driving practices such as using excessive speed, disobeying traffic laws and lack of safety gear. If you have children who drive ATVs or other related recreational vehicles be sure to supervise them. It is important that you have fun this summer but keep in mind that fun should not be had at the expense of safety.
