GPD to host drug take back day

The Greencastle Police Dept. will be once again hosting Drug Take Back Day on Saturday April 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greencastle High School located at 910 E. Washington St. Greencastle IN.  The Greencastle Police Department is once again teaming up with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) to take unwanted, expired, or unused medications out of people’s homes and medicine cabinets.  The Greencastle Police Department has been participating in this event since started back in 2011.  This will be the 10th event that the Greencastle Police Department and the Greencastle School Corporation has teamed up together to take drugs off our streets and out of our homes.  To this date we have collected and removed from our community 2,686.5 lbs. of medication through this event.

This is a no question event; people just drive through our location and drop off their medications.  People do not need to be concerned about labels being left on their medicine bottles because everything gets destroyed by fire at the Buzzi Unicem USA Plant here in Putnam County.  This event is for both over the counter medications along with prescription medication.  We DON’T accept sharps with this program and that is because Buzzi Unicem USA prefer not to put them in their incinerator.  The Greencastle Police Department does not have a way to destroy the sharps so therefore we discourage people bringing sharps.
