Grilling Season is Here! Stay Safe with These Safety Tips

Grilling season is here and if you plan on taking advantage of the first sunny weekend in spring then you should consider taking some of these grill safety tips.

Always follow the safety precautions on a grill’s owner’s manual. At the beginning of the season, check your hose connection and tighten if needed, once a propane grill has a propane tank attached, check for gas leaks. You can do this by turning the tank and applying soapy water with a brush to the hoses and connections. If there is a leak, you will see bubbles form. If you see a leak, turn off the tank immediately. If you smell gas while there is false, clear the area and call the Fire Department.

For those that use charcoal grills, lighter fluid is the most dangerous part of the grilling process. It is recommended that you use a chimney starter instead which you can get for around $12. Above all else you should have a fire extinguisher near, heat mitts and tongs. Have fun grilling out this weekend and remember to stay safe.
