Alton “Poppa” Trusle

East Lyme—Alton Carney Trusler, 73, of East Lyme, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in New London.
He was born July 25th, 1942, in Connersville, Ind., the son of Milton S. Trusler and Mary Carney Trusler.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Kay Trusler, his lifetime companion and best friend. Together they shared childhood memories; a marriage of 53 years.
Alton grew up in Conway, Arkansas until he was fourteen. His family moved to Greencastle when he was freshman in high school. He graduated from Greencastle High School where he was the school mascot. He spent his summers on the family farm in Morristown.
He was a traditional man who was a proud patriot. He married his high school sweetheart in June, 1962. He enlisted in the United States Navy and attended sub school in Groton, CT in 1963. He served his country as a submariner on the USS Thornback.
Poppa made a home for his family in East Lyme, CT. Here he began and finished his professional career as a contractor for RCA in Waterford; Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London; Analysis and Technology, Inc. in New London and Anteon in North Stonington, CT. He retired in January, 2016 from General Physics Corporation in Middletown RI.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Alison Caye Davis and son-in-law Thomas Edward Davis, his sons Paul Carney Trusler, and John Stevens Trusler; his daughter-in-law Nanette Cecilia Trusler; his granddaughters Kate Marquette Davis, and Rebecca Kay Davis; his grandsons Christian Vaughn Weinrick, Maxwell David Trusler, and Everett Vale Trusler. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Angeline Brookshire. His beloved dog Georgia Rose and kitty Boo will miss their doting caretaker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Connie Trusler Searl; and Christena Biggs.
His family and friends remember him as a man who saw life through rose-colored glasses giving all of his heart to everyone until he left us peacefully. He will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. Interment will be private.
