Betty June (Mercer) Middledorf, 93, of Brazil, passed away at Wellbrooke of Avon on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016.
She was born July 29, 1922, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Alvis Ross and Daisy (Snell) Mercer. Betty graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1940. Following high school Betty went to Indiana State Teachers College before attending Nurses Training at Michael Reese Hospital, in Chicago. She married James Middledorf August 1, 1946; he preceded Betty in death on April 12, 2015. Betty worked at Clay County Hospital for many years. Following retirement, she began working as a Title 1 aide at East Side Elementary. She retired at the age of 74 after 20 years of service.
Betty was a loyal member of the Berea Christian Church. Betty enjoyed serving others. She especially enjoyed cooking and working on crafts with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Middledorf; brothers: Bill Mercer and Gene Mercer.
Betty is survived by two daughters: Jaimie Shaul and husband Clifford of Avon and Catherine Daugherty and husband Kelly of Zionsville; grandchildren: Ande Shaul and wife Christina of Indianapolis, Brandon Daugherty and wife Leslie of Zionsville, and Brianna Barclay and husband Shaun of Fishers; great-grandchildren: Izabella Shaul, Harrison Daugherty, Levi Daugherty, and Cailyn Barclay; siblings Kenneth Mercer of Mooresville and Evelyn Kay Dudley of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Friday, April 1, 2016 from 10am – 12pm. Services will be at the funeral home at 12:00pm with Pastor Tom Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
