Father Kenneth Joseph Ciano, 74, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at Union Hospital, February 13, 2016, following a brief battle with acute myeloid lymphoma.
Ken was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, July 19, 1941 the son of Alfred Dennis Ciano and Nancy (Cattania) Ciano. He graduated from high school in Yonkers, New York. He attended undergraduate school at John Carroll University and later earned his undergraduate degree from The American University in Beirut, Lebanon. He taught English in a host of Middle Eastern countries until 1985. Ken earned his master’s degree in Linguistics from Temple University, in Philadelphia. Ken worked as a professor and director of the English as a Second Language program at Indiana State University. Ken answered the call to ministry in 1991 when he began attending Seminary at Priests of the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Wisconsin. He was ordained as a priest for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in 1995. Father Ken served St. Luke and St. Lawrence parishes, in Indianapolis, Ann invitation parish, Brazil, Holy Rosary parish, in Seelyville.
Father Ken was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Nancy Ciano.
Father Ken is survived by his brother Alfred D. Ciano Jr. and wife Lorraine of New Jersey; two nieces: Karin Ciano and husband Dore Kiesselbach Minneapolis, MN and Liza Ciano of Burlington, VT; cousins: l Ann Russo of Boca Raton, FL, Ceil Truatt of Jersey City, New Jersey, John Cattania of Bronx, NY, and Donald Cattania of Hobe Sound, FL; dear friends Lilly Farid of Terre Haute and Father Paul Kelly of WI.
Visitation for Father Ciano will be at St. Margaret Mary parish, 2405 South 7th Street Terre Haute, Indiana 47802 on Friday, February 19, 2016, 4-7pm. A prayer vigil will follow at 7:00pm. Visitation will also be held Saturday, from 10am until 11am. Mass will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00am, with Archbishop Joseph Tobin presiding.
