Valentine’s Day Snowfall Keeps Putnamville Troopers Busy

Indiana State Police Troopers from the Putnamville Post were kept very busy this afternoon responding to numerous traffic related events.

Troopers responded to (50) Property Damage Crashes; (3) Personal Injury Crashes; and (8) slide-offs between the hours of 12 noon and 8:30p.m.

A multi-vehicle crash involving (12) vehicles occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 31mile marker (Putnam County) injured four persons, all with non-life threatening injuries, mostly lacerations and complaints of pain. This crash occurred around 3:00p.m. with clean-up complete around 6:30p.m.

A larger crash event occurred in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 46 mile marker (Putnam County) around 3:22p.m. The crash involved an estimated 50 vehicles (crash investigation ongoing) with only seven injuries, all believed to be non-life threatening; ranging from pain, lacerations, to possible fractures.

The overwhelming majority of the crashes and slide-offs occurred on I-70 in Putnam County, few occurred in Clay and Vigo counties.

Overwhelming cause of these events is driving too fast for conditions.
