It was a good Friday night to tip off the 2016 Putnam County Classic. Two games that came down to the wire ended up with South Putnam and Cloverdale both advancing to the championship game on Saturday night at 7:30 at Greencastle High School.
The first game came down to the wire with South Putnam freshman, Allen Plunkett, hitting the go-ahead jumper with 4.5 seconds left in the game to give his team a 40-38 victory over North Putnam.
In the second game of the night Ryan Coble scored 38 points to go along with 15 rebounds and fell just short of a triple-double with eight assists for Greencastle. Cooper Neese scored 25 points for Cloverdale and added 13 rebounds and three assists, but Jalen Moore’s performance might have been the best of all. He had 26 points, six rebounds and six assists. He hit 14 of 15 free throws including all ten that he took in the overtime period to give his team a 75-71 victory. The Clovers scored 22 points in the overtime period which was four minutes long. Their next highest was in the third quarter with 16.
The games on Saturday night will be between North Putnam and Greencastle at 6 p.m. and Cloverdale and South Putnam at 7:30 p.m.
