Gerald Ray Ruiz

Gerald Ray Ruiz, 41, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly, February 9, 2016, at his residence due to complications of diabetes.

Ray was born in Lebanon, Indiana, March 15, 1974, the son of David J. Ruiz and Penny (Blaker) Ruiz. He graduated from Terre Haute North High School with the class of 1993 and later from Ivy Tech University with a degree in Culinary Arts.

Ray had worked for Bed Bath and Beyond for many years. He was an avid Star Wars fan and also enjoyed gardening. Ray was also passionate at playing the Bass Guitar. He played in several Terre Haute and Indianapolis area bands including Mr. Orange, The Dirty 3rd, VilaFishburn, and The New Guilt.

Ray was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: John and Anita Ruiz and his maternal grandparents Max and Betty Blaker as well as a nephew Jonathon William Brown.

Ray is survived by his mother Penny (Blaker) Ruiz Mitchell of Brazil; his father David J. Ruiz of Indianapolis; siblings: David Blaker of Terre Haute, Indiana, Joseph Ruiz and wife Rachel of Charlestown, Indiana, Mary Ruiz and Shawn Todd of Brazil, Indiana, and Rachael Loffer and husband Bryon of Terre Haute, Indiana; nieces Hunter and Hannah Todd; nephew Max Knight Ruiz and a special friend LaShelle Michael of Greenfield, Indiana as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation for Ray will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 11am until 1pm. Services will be at the funeral home, Saturday, following visitation at 1:00pm. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in his memory.
