Failure to Yield Crash Injures One

Yesterday afternoon at 12:55, Indiana State Police and Clay County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 159 near County Road 1300 South. The crash injured one driver and resulted the overturning of a tractor-trailer.

Preliminary investigation revealed a red 1998 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 66-year-old Roy Zimmerman of Shelburn, IN., was westbound from a private drive at 13105 South SR 159 attempting to proceed southbound onto SR 159. In doing so, he pulled into the path of a southbound 1986 Freightliner tractor pulling a dump trailer loaded with coal. The tractor-trailer attempted to maneuver around the pickup, but could not avoid impact. The tractor-trailer traveled off the roadway and rolled onto its passenger side. The tractor-trailer was driven by 50-year-old Robert Sullivan of Linton and owned by Pat’s Excavating of Terre Haute, IN. Sullivan was not injured and not cited.

Zimmerman was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital for treatment of abrasions and complaint of pain. Zimmerman was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
