Glenn “Jay” Pell, 79 of Brazil, passed away December 16, 2015 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1936, in Clay County, the son of Jesse Pell and Ferrie (Weaver) Pell.
He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Jay worked at Twigg Industries, Arketex, and Doyne Pell & Associates. He worked at Great Dane Trailers for 20 years before leaving in 1996 for health reasons.
Jay regularly showed his family and friends how important they were to him with regular phone calls or visits. His most beloved attribute was his quick-witted sense of humor. Jay will always be remembered wearing the signature hat that he wore everywhere he went.
Jay was an extremely skilled woodworker. Later in life he became a self-taught computer guru, restoring crashed computers. He enjoyed reading his Kindle and watching NASCAR races, the Pacers, Chicago Bears and Colts.
On August 3, 1957, Jay was united in marriage to Jo Ann Gilbrech. A skilled carpenter, Jay transformed an old log farmhouse in Van Buren Township into a place to call home and raise their three daughters.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Pell; daughters, Joni Wolf and husband Tom of Pittsboro, IN, Jami Jenkins and husband Scott of Dayton, OH, Jodi Lohrman and husband Andy of Brazil; grandchildren, T.J. Wolf, Ty Wolf, Megan Fowler, Clark Jenkins, Judah Lohrman, Sophie Lohrman; great-grandchildren, Macy and Zane Wolf, Baby Fowler due soon; sister Joan Hood; brother in law, Ike Hood; sisters in law, Jo Ann Price, Janet Pell, Helen Pell; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother’s Dean Pell and his wife Betty, Doyne Pell, Harry “Si” Pell, Dale Pell; sisters Virgie Hunt and her husband Bill, Norma Hood, Joy Hybarger and her husband Bill, and brother-in-law, Don Hood.
It was Jay’s wish to be cremated. Friends and family are welcome to gather between 1:00p.m. and time of services. A Celebration of Life (with bologna sandwiches) will be held Sunday, December 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil, IN. 47834 with Tom Wolf leading the service. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
