Cigarette smoking may become a little pricier in Indiana. House Republicans have proposed a $1 tax rate increase per pack. The Indiana American Lung Association says this tax increase could generate a lot of extra revenue for the state. They also say that when cigarettes go up in price at least 10%, a reduction in smoking occurs- 4% in adults and 7% in minors. Smoking causes 11,000 deaths and costs $3 billion in health care in Indiana each year.
