Jerry M. Harden, 76, of Brazil, passed away at Union Hospital, December 6, 2015 following a brief illness.
Jerry was born, February 12, 1939, in Brazil, Indiana, the son of Frank and Ethel (Miller) Harden. Mr. Harden served his country in the United States Naval Reserve for 4 years prior to enlisting in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Midway. As a civilian he worked for Allison’s Transmission at their Speedway plant for more than 30 years. Most recently he had been working at the Forrest Park Golf Course.
Throughout his life Jerry enjoyed being outdoors. In his younger years Jerry enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting. He was also an avid golfer and was one of the best “cross-handed” golfers around.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Ethel Harden; two grandchildren: Dylan Henry and Hannah Lee; two brothers: Jack Evans and Bill Harden; a sister: Shirley Roeschlein and two nephews: Mark Tucker and Ricky Brush.
He is survived by his wife Janet (Courtney) Harden of Brazil whom he married December 28, 1962; a daughter Christy Clark and husband Alan of Brazil; two sisters: Jacqueline Evans and husband Jerry of Brazil and Darlene Webb and husband Jim of Florida; a nephew-in-law and close friend Melvin Pieskie who was like a brother to him, a beloved cat named “Mouse”, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 1:00pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Saturday, from 11am until time of services.
