Greencastle, South Putnam Advance to County Championship

The girls’ version of the Putnam County Tournament only comes around once a year for all of the county basketball teams and it all tipped off on Friday night at South Putnam High School. The Greencastle Tiger Cubs beat the Cloverdale Clovers 53-26 and the South Putnam Eagles beat the North Putnam Cougars 61-15.

Greencastle will play South Putnam in the county championship on Saturday night right after the consolation game. The championship should start between 7:30 and 8 p.m. The consolation game will feature North Putnam and Cloverdale starting at 6 p.m.

Leading the night statistically for Greencastle, Gracie Smith had 11 points and Allison White had 10. For Cloverdale, Haley Hamm had 7 points. For South Putnam, Miranda Bieghler had 19 and Katie Hewitt had 18. Shelby Suding led the Cougars with 9 points.

The North Putnam/South Putnam game was a rematch from Nov. 5 at North Putnam when the Eagles won 56-44.
