Accident in Montezuma Injures Teen

On November 14th The Parke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident on 100 North in front of Superior Hardwoods in Montezuma. Bill Gilbert Jr., age 50 of Montezuma, was operating a 2002 Jeep Liberty and was traveling east on 100 North when he drove over a hump in the road and became airborne. Gilbert then lost control of the jeep, over corrected putting the jeep into a spin. The Jeep continued sideways and crossed back over the center line running off the road and striking a utility pole. The driver side back door struck the pole then continued to spin around coming to rest facing northeast. The driver side back seat passenger Taylor Gilbert, age 15 of Montezuma , was taken to Union Hospital of Clinton with a shattered left elbow and a laceration to the head. The driver and other two passengers were not hurt in the crash. During the investigation it was determined thru witnesses and evidence left from the vehicle that speed was a factor in the crash. The driver will be cited for the accident.
