INDIANAPOLIS – November 13, 2015 – Susan G. Komen® Central Indiana and Susan G. Komen® Wabash Valley announced today they are joining forces in order to deepen their impact. Operating as one entity, the revamped Affiliate, which will move forward under the name of Susan G. Komen Central Indiana, will also expand its reach to serve nine additional counties—Blackford, Fayette, Franklin, Fountain, Jay, Randolph, Union, Warren and Wayne. “In the fight against breast cancer, Affiliates of Susan G. Komen work to save the lives of women we all know and love within the place we call home,” said Natalie Sutton, executive director of Susan G. Komen Central Indiana. “Joining forces with Wabash Valley enables us to help more local women with early detection of breast cancer and treatment navigation today, while funding research that creates better outcomes for women tomorrow.” “Many people don’t realize that each Affiliate is responsible for its own operating resources,” said Gwen Hicks, with Susan G. Komen Wabash Valley. “Because of this and the strong ties with our fellow Hoosier communities, it made sense to combine our efforts to maximize the resources we direct to screenings, treatment navigation, education and survivor support.” The Affiliates have taken steps to ensure this operational consolidation doesn’t change what matters most to supporters: Donations will support local breast health programs and organizations in 39 Indiana counties and two counties in Illinois. Low-income and underinsured women, survivors, family and friends of survivors, grantees and the medical community will continue to be served. Community-focused events such as the Komen Wabash Valley Race for the Cure® and the Komen Central Indiana Race for the Cure® will still be held. “Breast cancer affects so many people and chances are, it has affected someone you know,” Sutton continued. “By joining forces, we’re able to make a bigger impact in the fight against breast cancer—building strength and hope for your mom, sister, friend, co-worker and neighbor.”About Susan G.
