David K. Brown, Jr. “Brownie”, 74 of Terre Haute, passed away November 12, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer. He was born February 10, 1941 in Clay County, the son of David K. Brown and Margaret Lewis Brown. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1959. David served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1967.
On October 27, 1961, David was united in marriage to Mary JoAn Shaffer Brown, and they have celebrated 54 years of marriage. David was always a provider and took great pride in being able to care for his family. He was a loyal employee, working as a mill operator for Anaconda Aluminum for 40 years. He retired in 2009 and he and JoAn had two good years of retirement prior to the onset of his cancer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104. David enjoyed fishing and was a “green thumb” vegetable gardener. He was a generous provider of produce to friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Matherly and Julia Sutherlin. Also, David had recently lost his friend, his dog Winston.
Survivors include his beloved wife, JoAn Brown of Terre Haute; one son, David Wayne Brown and wife Patricia of Chesterfield, VA and one daughter Cathy Crockett and husband John of Pittsboro, IN; grandchildren, David Wayne Brown, Jr., Christopher Brown, Megan Brown, Caitlyn Mosier and husband Aaron, and Evan Crockett; two sisters, Margaret Baratto and husband Gino of Brazil and Sarah Brown of Knightsville; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held Monday at 2pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave, Brazil, IN, with Pastors Jerry Nash and Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Post #104 and Scott Air Force Base. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 4-8 and again Monday one hour prior to services.
