Norma J. Day, 90 of Brazil, passed away October 4, 2015 at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. She had been a resident there for the past 3 years. She was born on December 24, 1924, in Clay County, the daughter of John E. Martin and Nellie Miller Martin.
She was united in marriage with Gilbert Day on January 8, 1945.
As a young woman, she worked for Mattel Toys while in New York. Later in life, she worked at Somheil’s Photography and also for Adamson’s Laundromat. The best and most important job has been a mother and mamaw.
Norma attended Eastside Christian Church and enjoyed Senior Citizens Euchre Club and Bunco. She was a lady who loved her flowers in her yard while at home, she enjoyed reading, working crosswords, bird watching and most of all she treasured family time.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Bussing and husband Greg of Clinton, Sue Davis and husband Larry of Brazil, son Steve Day and daughter in law, Georgia Day of Brazil; grandchildren, Chris Courtney (Jennie), Matt Courtney, Jason Davis (Nancy), Susan Maesch (Vernon), Jessica Thomas (Eric), Andrew Day (Alyssa); great-grandchildren, Josh, Tyler, Daniel and Rachel Courtney, Jeffrey and Cameron Davis, Dan and Mac Shaw, Michael Street, Elizabeth Street, Chloe Maesch and William Maesch, Garret Thomas, and Sylvia Thomas; many nieces, nephews and extended family. The family is also expecting a new great-great-grandchild in March, Baby Day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings, Lawrence Martin, Melvin Martin, Opal Brossman, Mildred McCallister, John Martin, Harold Martin, Bob Martin, Fred Martin and Irene Cooper.
Services will be held Saturday October 10, at 2:00pm at French Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12-2.
