Greencastle Hosts Cross-Country Invite

~From Greencastle Coach Garry Anderson

The weather was almost perfect –cool, no wind, and only a small amount of rain. Great! Greencastle High School cross country teams finished number one in both boys and girls races. In the boys race I was very pleased with Clayton Wilson time and place. He was able to get a personal best with the the time of 17:04.9. He is making small cuts into his time lately and hopefully this will continue. It was nice to see Braden Pershing and Cameron Lewis duel it out. Braden has really been ill for the most part of this season. He showed signs of the Braden Pershing of last season. Ben Gellman finished real strong for us. His time of 18:03.1 was a PR for him also. He has worked very hard on getting better and better for each meet. It was very nice and surprising to see most of our team finish in top 30. Our times were very good for this meet with the course being as tough as it is. The hills are very deceiving–longer than they look because they are
way out in an open area without trees being around them.

In the girls race, Emma Wilson outdistanced state qualifier Alli Workman of Bloomfield for 1st place. Alli Workman is a very tough competitor and we knew coming in that she and Emma would be up front ahead of the main group of racers. Emma lead from the very start and won with a time of 18:00.4 and Workman finished a distant second in 18:59.9. The Greencastle girls were able to place all five of their individual runners in the top ten. Our two other freshman and one sophomore runners were pushing each other throughout the race. I think they all had pretty good times and showed that we are working in the right direction as we wind down the season. We still have two girls sitting out with injuries and hopefully they will be ready by State Tournament time. That should make us stronger and more competitive.
