Greencastle, Ind. — Playing to a full house during Family Weekend on Saturday, the DePauw men’s soccer team upset No. 6 Loras 2-0.
DePauw went ahead early at the 12:43 mark when Julian Gonzalez connected on his third goal of the season. Adrian Ables crossed the ball from the right side of the field, and the ball deflected off Mitch Reavis before Gonzalez scored.
The score remained the same until the winding minutes of the game when Reavis scored off a long pass from Gonzalez to put the game away.
DePauw stayed mostly conservative in the second half until Reavis broke through for the late goal.
“The back line did a good job winning the ball and not allowing them to score,” DePauw men’s soccer coach Brad Hauter said.
The win keeps the Tigers undefeated at 5-0-1 while Loras suffered their first loss to drop to 4-1-1.
Goalkeeper Chris Yount, who made five saves (including an impressive diving stop in the first half), improves to 4-1-1 with the shutout. Loras goalkeeper Jacob Peterson drops to 4-1-1.
Both teams took 11 shots, and Loras took 10 corners to DePauw’s three. Loras also committed 19 fouls to DePauw’s eight.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday when they host Rose-Hulman in a non-conference game.
