Donald R. Clerk

Donald R. Clerk, 82, of Brazil, passed away at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, Brazil, Indiana, with his family by his side, in September 12, 2015 following a brief illness.

Don was born May 19, 1933, in Sullivan, Indiana the son of Hugh and Beulah (Pinkston) Clerk. He graduated from Sullivan High School with the class of 1951 and attended Indiana State University for 2 years.

Don served his country in the United States Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service to his country.

As a young man he worked mowing lawns. After finishing school he worked for 7 UP Bottling Company, in Sullivan, for 7 years. For 33 years he worked for Eckrich where he earned the distinction of national top salesman for several years. He was a dedicated employee who never missed a day of work his entire career.

In his younger years Don enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, fishing, reading and bowling. Don was an avid L.A. Dodgers baseball fan and Indianapolis Colts football fan.

He was an active member of the Brazil First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Republican Party where he served as vice chairman of the 4th precinct.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years Betty Clerk of Brazil; children: Lana Kaye Clerk, Michael Kent Clerk and wife Michelle, Dwight David Clerk, and Kevin Lee Clerk and wife Margaret; grandchildren: Nicole Bradbury, Ashley Ellis, Kevin Michael Clerk, Trent Clerk, Lacey Clerk, Erica Clerk, Tiara Clerk, Whitney Clerk, Tressa Clerk, Adam Herr and wife Erica, Kendall Clerk, and Ross Clerk; several great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Hugh Clerk Jr.; a great-grandson Brody Ellis and an uncle John William Clerk.

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 4-8pm. Services will be held at the funeral home, Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
